Breakout Session: It’s Not Just a Ride, It’s an Experience — and Good Marketing!
The Bourbon Country Burn team takes pride in creating a truly unique, high quality experience for our guests. In this breakout session, we will be discussing how we have successfully blended a bike tour with a bourbon festival, and how we have grown from 200 to 1,000 riders from 45 states in just 3
years — largely by following this simple value: “It’s Not Just a Ride, It’s an Experience.”

However, having an unique experience to offer guests is just the beginning! The success of any cycling event is largely dependent on an organization’s ability to promote and market its experiences.

So, what has worked for The Burn? We have distilled our marketing plan down to a few key strategies which have helped us yield a high-demand product:

•  Old-Fashioned: Don’t underestimate the power of old-fashioned bootstrapping.
•  Manhattan: You don’t need a Mad-Men Advertising Budget.
•  Bourbon Neat: Create neat, high quality experiences & marketing materials.
•  Bourbon on the Rocks: Follow the trends in your industry.

Breakout Session: Perception and Reality - Key Factors to Trail Economy Success
Results of a survey conducted of small trail businesses. Survey found that identifying the true needs of trail consumer produced success, as did positive perceptions among communities about the value of bike tourism. I welcome a panel format that includes other stakeholders or examples which further illustrate economic success along bike trails/routes. Examples we have seen: integrating bike tourism into the local community in a positive way; trail entrepreneurs serving the trail consumer in effective ways; examples of utilizing limited resources to achieve a successful trail-related business.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Trail communities, economic development groups, prospective trail business entrepreneurs -understand what factors can aid success in a trail-related business, what a business owner can do to be successful, how communities and economic development groups can help support attraction/growth/longevity of trail-related small businesses.

Breakout Session: A Bike Travel Movement Toward Inclusion
WTF Bikexplorers was founded in the fall of 2017 when six friends decided to collaborate on a movement toward more connection, equity, and gender inclusivity within bicycle adventure travel. We strive to create rides and resources that support, celebrate, and connect underrepresented communities within cycling.

The annual Summit brings together 150 voices from across the globe to share skills, cross pollinate ideas, and connect with one another over rides, clinics, storytelling, and campfires. In addition to the summit we organize campaigns to connect our community and fuel the stoke for this movement through the SJ Brooks Scholarship, an ongoing Grassroots Ride Series, and WTF Bikexplorers online communities.
